The disconnect switch disconnects the normal operating current, while the fuse interrupts the circuit fault current, thus cutting off the load current. At the same time, the load isolating switch is equipped with an arc extinguishing device to handle overload current.

Types of Disconnect Switch
Fused disconnect switches:
This type incorporates a fuse inside the switch enclosure. The fuse offers overcurrent protection by opening the circuit upon detecting excess current. The fuse blows in case of excess current and will need replacement to reinstate the power.
Non-fusible disconnect switches:
