Components of Circuit Breaker in Gas-Insulated Switchgear
Interrupter (Burning Chamber): This is the core component of a gas-insulated circuit breaker, responsible for extinguishing the arc. The arc extinguishing chamber contains the moving and stationary contacts, the insulating nozzle, and the associated arc-extinguishing mechanism.
Operating Mechanism: This component provides the mechanical energy required to open and close the circuit breaker. Common operating methods include manual and electric operation, with electric operation enabling remote control and automation.
Gas System and Density Monitoring: The circuit breaker is filled with SF6 gas at a specific pressure. A sophisticated gas system manages the filling, circulation, and sealing of the SF6 gas.
Insulation Support System: High-performance insulating materials such as porcelain post insulators, solid insulators (e.g., epoxy post insulators), or composite insulators are used to support and isolate live parts. This ensures excellent insulation performance under high voltage conditions.
Enclosure: Common structural types include:
Live Can (Porcelain Post): The circuit breaker consists of multiple independent phases, with the internal arc extinguishing chamber and other live parts of each phase supported by porcelain insulators.
Dead tank type (tank type): In this design, the interrupter, and sometimes even the disconnector, are integrated into a sealed metal tank filled with SF6 gas. This configuration is common in SF6 switchgear and SF6GIS devices. It is more compact, has better pollution resistance, and is safer to operate.
