The air load switch used in 12kV fully insulated gas-filled cabinets is an electrical device with functionality intermediate between a high-voltage circuit breaker and a high-voltage disconnector (or isolator). It is typically used in series with a high-voltage fuse to provide short-circuit protection in addition to interrupting load and overload currents. It supports three-position operation: opening, closing, and grounding. It also supports two-position operation with optional grounding and fuse options.
Main circuit: 800A - 20kA (4s), 25kA (3s); mechanical life: 5000 cycles. Grounding circuit: 20kA (2s); mechanical life: 2000 cycles.
