How To Use Disconnect Switches

When electrical equipment is de-energized for maintenance, disconnecting switches isolate the equipment from the power supply, creating a clearly visible disconnect point to ensure the safety of personnel and equipment. For example, when maintaining electrical equipment, disconnecting switches separate the equipment from the energized power grid, allowing for safe maintenance work due to this clear disconnect point.

Pre-operation inspection

Before operating a disconnecting switch, it is essential to ensure that the circuit breaker or other switching equipment connected to the disconnecting switch is in the open position. This is a crucial prerequisite for ensuring operational safety. The disconnecting switch can only be operated after the circuit breaker or other equipment has been opened to prevent operation of the disconnecting switch under load and avoid dangerous accidents.

Closing operation

When performing the closing operation, the operator should stand in the correct position and decisively and quickly close the disconnecting switch. The closing action should not be too forceful towards the end to prevent damage to the equipment. After the operation is complete, check that the main switch blade and the stationary contact are making good contact to ensure successful closing. For single-pole disconnecting switches, close the two outer phases first, then the middle phase, to ensure the synchronicity and stability of the three phases.

Tripping operation

Before performing the tripping operation, it must be confirmed that the circuit breaker and other switching equipment are in the tripped state. Then, slowly operate the disconnecting switch, and quickly pull it open after the main switch blade leaves the stationary contact. After the operation is completed, check whether the disconnecting switch is in the open position and whether its operating mechanism is locked to ensure the safety and reliability of the equipment.

Special Circumstances Handling

If serious defects such as severe insulator damage or transmission rod damage are found during operation, operation must not be carried out. Operation should be stopped immediately and the relevant department notified for handling. If the remote control electrical operation fails, on-site operation may be performed under specific conditions, but must be strictly followed to ensure operational safety. Furthermore, if any abnormal phenomena occur during operation, operation should be stopped immediately. The emergency stop button can be used to stop the operating mechanism, and the situation should be reported promptly, with appropriate corrective measures taken.
